The ability of the union construction industry to deliver quality construction at a fair cost is determined, in part, by the skill of the employees. These employees must be highly educated, self-disciplined, and positively motivated. The union contractor utilizes highly skilled people from the building trades to perform the actual construction duties on a project. In order for a construction project to materialize, contractors rely heavily on a diverse mix of organizational support staff which includes: project managers, estimators, purchasing agents, engineers, accountants, marketing specialists, safety coordinators, financial managers, and other administrative personnel.
The CAF recognizes that quality employees are vital to helping an organization to remain competitive. To help facilitate the process of matching up quality people with our member contractors, the CAF has developed a school-to-career program at both the high school and college levels.
The Construction Advancement Foundation works closely with regional high schools and career centers to encourage talented young students to consider a career in the construction industry. We help introduce students to careers within the building trades and provide them with insight on the qualifications needed to gain entry into the various apprenticeship programs. The school-to-career portal on our website provides a wealth of information for students who are interested in a career with the union construction trades. For students interested in attending college, the CAF has scholarship opportunities available for those wishing to pursue a degree in a construction related field.
The CAF also works closely with local colleges to help students find internship and employment opportunities with contractors within the construction industry. The internship portal on our website allows students to post resumes and provides our member contractors with a valuable resource when hiring employees. As an incentive to both students looking toenter into the construction industry and the contractor, the CAF offers free training to all students who enter into an internship with one of our member contractors. CAF sponsors many safety and educational training classes throughout the year to provide management and supervision with the knowledge and skills necessary to remain at the forefrontof the industry.
